I LOVE Halloween. In my previous blog post I shared my love of pumpkin everything- and you can pretty much sum it up to say that I love everything about this time of year. Crunching leaves, chilly nights, costumes and all! But what I don't love is that everywhere you turn- there is CANDY! Which means that not only am I tempted to eat it, but my kids are eating it at every turn. Your FIT4MOM team has banded together once again to bring you The Top 10 Ways to Avoid The Halloween Candy! You can do it!
10- Don't hand out candy to trick or treaters- hand out something like pretzels or Pirates Booty that won't tempt you
9- Brush and floss your teeth so that you aren't tempted to nibble
8- Buy your candy the day of Halloween and buy candy that you don't like- not only will it stay out of your house as long as possible, but you will probably get it on sale too
7- Have a healthy sweet treat- I like to make a protein shake with pumpkin- 1/2 c. canned pumpkin, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, 1 c. almond milk, 1 T. almond butter, 1 c. ice- blend it up and enjoy guilt free!
6- Send any treats that come home to work with your husband!
5- Make a rule that for every piece of candy you eat, you have to do 10 burpees (even though, truth be told that won't burn nearly as many calories as are in the candy...)
4- Trade it in- there are lots of organizations that are collecting candy to send to the troops. There are even some pediatric dentists who will offer your kiddos money to trade in your candy!
3- Swap it- At my house we do The Great Pumpkin, I've also heard it called the Switch Witch. The kiddos get to keep the number of pieces of candy as their age, and then they leave the rest on the table for the Great Pumpkin. That night he comes and takes their candy to little boys and girls that need it and leaves another present in it's place.
2- Eat a healthy dinner before trick or treating to fill you up
1- Repeat after me. "I AM STRONGER THAN ANY CANDY CRAVING. That candy bar will not be worth it. I'VE GOT THIS!"
Have a safe and happy Halloween everyone!
