How did you first get introduced to Fit4Mom/Stroller Strides? I used to manage two baby stores in Chicago before moving to Northbrook, IL; I left the baby stores in efforts to focus on our IVF process as well as get us moved. The baby world in Chicago is pretty small and my path had crossed with Jackie Dorris' along the way so when I saw a post on North Shore Mom's Spot on FB that she was looking to expand to the North Shore, I knew this was a perfect fit for me and our beautiful newborn daughter. I reached out to some mutual friends who knew Jackie better than I so they could put in a good word for me; I met Jackie, tried a few classes, and I was hooked -- this was exactly what I needed!
What made you want to become an instructor? I am a busy body... I love to exercise... I love to socialize... I love spending time with my baby... I love to make people feel good about themselves. So when I found myself with a baby, knowing very few people in the area and going stir crazy the opportunity to help Jackie move to the North Shore was too perfect to be true! And it still is! This is such a great place for me to be for our little family and for myself!
What did you do before becoming an instructor? Loosely stated, management. I spent 10 years in hotel management where I was the weddings manager for the last 2 years before transitioning to opening and managing 2 baby stores in Chicago.
What is your favorite part of instructing? Aside from spending time doing something I love with our daughter that I love?! Is there more than that? YES! I love motivating moms and helping them realize that THEY are enough for their family. I love the look on their face when they sing to their kiddos and their kiddos laugh right back while the mamas set an amazing example for them. I love seeing a moms face light up when she does her first "real" burpee. I love seeing mamas grab the red band instead of the green band. But most of all... I love to see "my mamas" stand a little prouder and feel a little better about themselves every day. (this sounds cheesy but it's so true! Ask my husband!)
What is your favorite non-kid workout song that gets you moving? Shut Up and Dance with me! Isabel and I have a dance party to it in the kitchen every night as I make dinner and she eats her snack in her high chair!
